The Valga Municipality was expecting the opinions of the involved parties on the draft decision on the pre-selection of the location of the Valga Municipality wind farm and the report on the first stage of the strategic environmental assessment until 5 January 2025. A total of 32 letters of opinion were submitted by the deadline, including a joint petition of the residents of Õruste village with 22 signatures and an opinion submitted through the Rahvaalgatus.ee portal with 409 signatures.
The municipality has begun to consider the opinions submitted and to formulate its position. Members of the Valga Municipal Council and its relevant committees are also involved in the opinion-forming process, so that local issues and important spatial decisions can be addressed in a balanced way.
"Spatial planning is key to creating a well-functioning and integrated living environment for all. Every decision must support environmental well-being and be economically, culturally and socially sustainable. This is the only way to create thoughtful land use and well-planned buildings that meet the needs of present and future generations," explains Lenna Hingla, Senior Planning Specialist at Valga Municipality.
From 25 November 2024 to 5 January 2025, the municipality carried out the coordination of the materials of the draft special plan and the collection of opinions, in accordance with § 105(1) of the Planning Act. During this process, the opinions of the parties involved were collected and the approval of the government agencies was sought. On the basis of these, the necessary amendments will be made. A new public consultation is planned for the spring-summer period, when all interested parties will have the opportunity to review and comment on the materials. "We consider it very important that all planning processes are transparent and involve local people. Every meaningful opinion and suggestion sent to us by residents is valuable to us," stresses Monika Rogenbaum, Mayor of Valga municipality.
