Aasta koos tantsus / A year together in dance

„A year together in dance”

The aim of the project: The main objective of the project is to strengthen the relations between the local population of the border towns of Valka-Valga, to promote communication and a sense of belonging in an international, cross-border environment. The activities aim to foster better integration of Estonian and Latvian people through active lifestyles and to create a more diverse and stronger community network.

Project activities: The project will prepare a folk and contemporary dance performance, in which 3 folk dance groups from Valka and 3 folk dance groups from Valga will work together to stage a joint dance performance. Both joint and separate dance performances will be organised for Valka and Valga dance groups. The first dance performance is planned for June 2025 as part of the Valka-Valga Twin Town Festival. In addition, 4 more dance performances are planned - 2 in Latvia and 2 in Estonia.

In addition to the above-mentioned activities, 4 different dance workshops are regularly organised in Valka and Valga, inviting people from both cities to participate. The working language of the dance workshops is English. The workshops are designed to take into account different levels of mobility and to be inclusive for all.

  • Dance workshop „Take me up with dance” (LV)
  • Dance workshop „Body whistle” (LV)
  • Dance workshop „Straighten up and dance” (EN)
  • Dance workshop „Dancing with chairs” (EE)

At the end of the project, a joint closing event will be organised for all participants.

Project budget:

  • The total budget of the project is €87 500, including a grant of €70 000 from the Estonian-Latvian cross-border cooperation programme.
  • The budget of Valga municipality is 33 738,75 euros, including a grant of 26 991 euros from the Estonian-Latvian cross-border cooperation programme.

Project activities: Within the framework of the project, a folk and contemporary dance performance is being prepared, where 3 Valka and 3 Valga folk dance groups will work together to stage a joint dance performance. Both joint and separate dance classes are organized for Valka and Valga dance groups. The first dance performance is planned in June 2025 as part of the Valka-Valga Twin Cities Festival. In addition, 4 more dance performances are planned - 2 in Latvia and 2 in Estonia.

In addition to the aforementioned activities, 4 different dance workshops are regularly held in Valka and Valga, where residents of both cities are invited to participate. The working language of the dance workshops is English. When creating workshops, different mobility abilities are taken into account so that they are inclusive for everyone.
