On 1 October, the newly renovated building of the Valga Open Youth Centre was inaugurated with a youth-friendly ceremony. The dignified building now has modern, up-to-date lighting and ventilation, and the heating, electricity, water and sewerage systems, which were necessary to achieve energy efficiency, have been renovated. A new ventilation system with heat recovery ensures energy efficiency and a better indoor climate. The façade of the building was also renovated. Solar panels were installed on the property. All the fire safety works were also carried out, so there are no longer any prescriptions on this old building. The multi-storey building now has a lift. The renovation of the youth centre took a whole year and cost over €800 000.
At the opening event, many friends and partners, as well as people who have been involved with the Youth Centre at various times, wished the Youth Centre and the young people well. Monika Rogenbaum, Mayor of Valga Municipality, confirmed that this was indeed a landmark event. „The young people got their home back. It was a complex project, which required effort and maximum attention from all parties. My sincere thanks to the project team for their commitment and for finding solutions. I wish the young people a lot of fun and good times every day in this historic Morel villa,“ said the Mayor.
The construction of the youth centre was carried out by A.K.Montage OÜ, the design work was carried out by ARC Projekt OÜ, and the owner supervision was carried out by Kojak OÜ.
The Valga municipality donated a camera system to the youth centre, which will help keep the large building safe and tidy.
The energy efficiency of the building was supported by the Estonian state through the State Support Services Centre under the support measure „Climate 2.9.1 Energy efficiency of public buildings“ call for proposals „Making local authority buildings energy efficient“ (Round I).
We wish young people and youth workers a lot of joy in the new building with its new facilities!
