Grossi Grocery is considering expanding with its Valka chain of stores

Monika Rogenbaum, Mayor of Valga Municipality, Kaupo Kutsar, Deputy Mayor of Valga Municipality, and Lenna Hingla, Senior Planning Specialist, met today, 2 September, with Oleg and Georg Gross to explore the possibility of a Grossi food and grocery store coming to Valka. The aim is to create a full-range Grossi store, which in turn means that at least 5,000 square metres of land will be needed for the development. The area of the store to be set up would be around 1,500 square metres. According to Oleg Grossi, the Valga store should preferably still be located in the city centre, with good access and parking. „Three things are important for a store: location, location and location,” stressed Oleg Gross. At the same time, he agreed that a location in the city centre also requires a nice architectural solution. In terms of construction, they prefer to use durable materials in their stores, and stone and glass are the materials of choice for a visual match. Wood is not preferred because of its high maintenance requirements. During the in-depth discussion, two possible locations in Valga were shortlisted, one privately owned and the other municipally owned. Alternatively, a few other possible sites could be considered. It was agreed that the Valga municipality would now meet with Mr Gross and advise and support him in the planning procedure if necessary.

Grossi Grocery is a large supermarket chain that has not yet expanded into Valga County, but is still strongly targeting Valga County in its development plans. We hope that the border town of Valga-Valka will be the first place where Grossi Toidukaubad will open a store in Valgamaa.

Many thanks to Oleg and Georg Grossi for coming to Valka and for a meaningful meeting! See you soon!
