Joint trainings and competitions in Estonia and Latvia

The aim of the project: The aim of the project is to achieve a better cross-border partnership in the field of sports, focusing on cooperation between Estonian and Latvian municipalities in border areas. To create an outlet for young athletes or those who would like to start their own sports life. The main aim of the project is to exchange experiences between Estonian and Latvian municipalities and to promote mutual cooperation.

Project activities: As a result of the project, study visits will be organised to exchange experiences. There will also be international tournaments in athletics, football, basketball, handball and precision shooting.

The final outcome of the project will be the acquisition of new experience and practice in organising international competitions and training. Sports professionals, coaches and trainees from Valga, Valka and Smiltene will create new contacts and experiences to promote the future of sport in the neighbouring cities.

Project partners: The lead partner is Valka Municipality Council. The project partners are Smiltene Municipality and Valga Municipality.

Period of project implementation: 01.08.2023 – 30.11.2024

Project budget:

  • The total budget of the project is €87 500, including a grant of €70 000 from the Estonian-Latvian cross-border cooperation programme.
  • The budget of Valga municipality is 28 730 euros, including a grant of 22 984 euros from the Estonian-Latvian cross-border cooperation programme.
