EN: weUEsoUD (We are an Alliance for Equality - Let's be united in diversity)

The aim of the project: The project ”We are an Alliance for Equality - Let's be united in diversity” aimed to explore themes of resistance, democratic transition and the consolidation of democracy in the EU and its history, including racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance.

We intend to do this by highlighting historical perspectives and a common history to better understand the development of Europe and the European people, with a particular focus on the EU and fundamental rights perspective. The project has been set up by 17 organisations from 16 European countries.

  1. Raising awareness of the important role of women in different historical events:
    • Portuguese women fought against the totalitarian Estado Novo regime in Portugal before the revolution of 25 April 1974;
    • Valuing the role of Lithuanian women against the authoritarian regime of the Soviet occupation;
    • To recall the important role of Greek women in the fight for democracy, as well as in the fight against racism and xenophobia and in support of African peoples;
  2. Promote cross-sectoral cooperation, involving municipalities, libraries, schools, universities, youth centres and NGOs.
  3. To create as diverse a network as possible between partners from different EU countries, including participants from Southern Europe to Eastern Europe, to work together to promote the project and the European Commission's priorities.

350 citizens from around the world contributed to the project, involving around 15 000 people.

Project activities: The project lasted 24 months, starting in December 2022 and included 1 webinar, which took place on 4 February 2023 and 3 international events, which took place in Gondomari (Portugal) in March 2023; Vilnius and Ukmerges (Lithuania) in June 2023 and Kilkis (Greece) in October 2024.

Period of project implementation: September 2022 - September 2024
